Project Overview

An independent coffee roaster with a loyal local following needed a rebrand to support their expansion into regional retail. Their existing brand — a clip-art coffee cup and a generic brown palette — was holding them back on shelves dominated by design-forward competitors. The rebrand needed to preserve their heritage while making them look like they belonged in premium retail.

What We Did

  • Designed a bold new logo that combines a stylised coffee cherry with a strong wordmark — distinctive at thumbnail size on a shelf tag and impressive blown up on a café window
  • Developed a warm, rich colour palette — deep espresso brown, warm terracotta, cream, and a vibrant ochre accent — inspired by the colours of coffee from cherry to cup
  • Created a bespoke typography pairing: a rugged, slightly condensed serif for the brand name and packaging headlines, with a clean sans-serif for body text and origin information
  • Redesigned the full packaging range — single-origin bags, blend boxes, subscription mailers, and wholesale bulk packs — each with a unified system that flexes for different products
  • Built a packaging design system with colour-coded origin labels and tasting notes, making it easy for retail customers to understand the range at a glance

The rebrand transformed the roaster's retail presence — they went from 7 stockists to 21 in three months, and several retailers reported that the new packaging was the reason they said yes.
