Independent food producer

A warmer, more characterful identity designed to stand out on a shelf and across packaging, with a colour system built for print reproduction.

Bold brand identity with packaging and colour system for a food producer
The brief

Competing for attention in a crowded aisle

An independent producer selling into farm shops, delis and eventually larger retail. Their product was strong, but their packaging disappeared on a busy shelf — a small brand losing to competitors who simply looked more confident.

The challenge wasn't just a logo. It was designing an identity that could carry across multiple product lines, survive the realities of print reproduction, and still feel personal rather than corporate.

What we did

Designed for the shelf, not the screen

Most branding is designed for a laptop and then applied to packaging. We worked the other way round — starting with the physical product and building outward.

A mark with personality

We developed a logo with genuine character — enough warmth to feel handmade and independent, but clean enough to reproduce reliably across every format.

A colour system for print

The palette was specified in both CMYK and Pantone from the outset, so colours stay consistent whether products are printed digitally or traditionally.

Packaging as a system

Rather than designing one label, we built a flexible packaging system that lets new products launch without needing a redesign each time.

Standout tested in context

We reviewed the designs against real competitor packaging to check the brand actually stood out on a crowded shelf, not just on a mood board.

The outcome

A brand that earns its shelf space

The producer now has an identity that competes visually with far larger brands — and a packaging system that lets them add products without starting over each time.

  • Packaging that stands out on a crowded shelf
  • Colour specified for reliable print reproduction
  • A system that extends to new product lines
  • An identity that feels independent, not corporate
